Longevity: Read Our Top 10 Tips To Stay Younger For Longer And Slow Down The Ageing Process

We’ve all heard the saying “You’re only as young as you feel!” Nowadays, everyone wants to know the secret to staying younger and living longer. If you are eager to add a few extra years to your life, read on and we will share our secret tips to help you to slow down the clock and  stay younger for longer.

1.  Eat well

If you want to find the fountain of youth, the key ingredient is to eat the right foods.  Powerful antioxidants are substances which are found in certain foods which protect the cells from damage caused by free radicals and help to fight the aging process.

Reach for fruits and veggies which are packed with antioxidants to boost the immune system. Grapes, blueberries, strawberries, broccoli, spinach, asparagus, beans, sweet potatoes, nuts and even dark chocolate will give you the antioxidant boost you need. When you eat these foods in their natural form, they help you to live longer and stay healthier too. Remember that ORGANIC fruit & veggies have been shown to contain MORE antioxidants than those that have been grown using pesticides and other chamicals.

Include lean meat, chicken and oily fish such as salmon or tuna in your daily menu. Cut out processed foods, preservatives and sugar from your diet – bacon, sausage, biscuits, sauces and takeaways are silent killers and so bad for your health.

Because of modern farming practices, we don’t always get all the nutrients our bodies need from a good diet and when that happens we can supplement with natural remedies that contain  anti-oxidant properties, and fight aging.

2. Drink plenty of water

You’ve heard it so many times before – drink eight glasses of water per day! It really is good for your body. Start your day with a cold glass of water to kick start your metabolism and hydrate your body from the previous night’s sleep. Drinking water throughout the day cleanses and flushes all those nasty toxins from your body, keeps your skin and hair looking great, and helps you to eat less.

TIP: Buy a filter for your water so that you can filter out the chemicals contained in municipal water. The fewer artificial chemicals in your body the better and healthier your immune system will be!

3. Get moving

Getting older is not an excuse to become sedentary. Start moving more by incorporating physical activity into your life. You don’t have to live in the gym but keep active by going for a brisk walk, dancing or strengthening your body by doing yoga or pilates. As we age, we lose muscle mass and our bones become weak, leaving us at risk of osteoporosis. Keeping fit is also an excellent way to maintain healthy blood pressure and sugar levels, but mostly, to help you to feel fabulous in every way.

As we get older, we often develop all sorts of aches and pains that cause us to avoid exercise, thinking that it will make the pain worse. On the contrary, it is a decrease in exercise that often increases stiffness, muscle & joint pain. Get moving slowly and then build up to longer and brisker exercise. Regular exercise is the key!

4. Reduce stress

Are you always stressed or worrying about something or other? If you are, then you are guaranteed to feel old in no time. Stress, worry and anxiety can age you because of the increased levels of stress hormones in the body!

Recognise what your stress triggers are and work on solutions to de-stress your mind and body. Of course, there will be times when stress does take its toll and you would need some extra support.

Meditation is also great way to deal with daily stressors and shut out the world for ten to twenty minutes every day. You may find that listening to relaxing music, going for a run, painting or baking helps you to feel centred and calm again.

5. Be positive

Staying positive and looking on the brighter side of life can definitely add years to life! Negativity brings you down and makes you feel miserable about yourself and your life.

Surround yourself with positive people and banish the haters and naysayers to the curb – you really don’t want or need them to be a part of your world. Think good thoughts and train your brain to be optimistic and you will attract positivity into your life. It’s a work in progress but keep at it, and you’ll reap the rewards!

6. More romance, more sex

Keep romance alive no matter what your age. Years of marriage, raising children and day to day life can all take their  toll on relationships – more often than not, killing the romance and your sex life. Studies prove that frequent sex can increase longevity and general wellbeing. Amp up the romance in your relationship by scheduling regular date nights, going away for the night or a weekend without the kids, and being sexy with each other.

If your sex life has taken a dip, try natural remedies such as Iqawe for Men and Thanda Passion Booster for Women to help you get your mojo back. Igawe for Men helps to increase libido, boost sexual performance and stamina.  Thanda Passion Booster for Women is a natural tonic which promotes sexual desire and increases libido.

7. Beauty sleep is a must!

There’s a lot of truth in the words  beauty sleep (in case you were wondering!) Go to bed early and don’t cheat yourself out of a good night’s rest. It is vital for your overall health and mental wellbeing, and also makes a significant difference to your appearance

The best sleep occurs between 10pm and  2.am, so make that you are under covers by 10pm. Lots of people suffer from insomnia and struggle to get enough sleep. In fact, as people age, so the incidence of insomnia increases.

If you are having sleepless nights, try a natural solution such as Serenite Plus to induce drowsiness and deep relaxation. Serenite Plus helps to promote natural and safe sleeping patterns without the risk of negative side effects often caused by prescription sleeping medications.

8. Be good to yourself

We often get so caught up in our hectic schedules, work and family that we forget to be good to ourselves. Women, in particular have a tendency to put their needs last because they are considering everyone else except themselves!

Make an effort to treat yourself every so often or do something that brings you joy. Celebrate yourself by going for a massage, have a get-together with your girlfriends, send the kids to gran for the weekend, relax in a leisurely, bubble bath or go to the movies. Your assignment here is to take time out for yourself and to feel renewed, so go and enjoy yourself!

9. Exercise your brain

As you get older, you often become a bit forgetful and your mind may not be as astute as it once was. In order to improve memory and prevent cognitive decline, strengthen the mind by doing crossword puzzles, Sudoku or playing online games such as Candy Crush or Words with Friends.

A natural remedy such as Lion's Mane is specially formulated to help with age-related memory loss and helps to improve memory, concentration and attention span.

10. Go outside

There’s no better natural cure than fresh air and sunshine to keep you feeling alive and rejuvenated. Spend time outdoors to benefit from the sunlight and feel the immediate change in your mood, especially if you’ve been cooped up inside. Walk the dog, do a spot of gardening or just relax on a bench watching the birds but take 15 to 30 minutes out of your day to spend outdoors.
